Me and my wife has been here many times. Food is always how I would expect it to be. My biggest issue with this place is some times you get awesome service but about 75% of the time it is very slow and the staff are generally not very friendly. We continue to go back because my wife likes the food. If it was up to me I wouldn't go.

I wasn't going to write a review of this establishment, but after reading a couple of similar reviews; I felt compelled to expose this sad excuse for a restaurant. The first time was to try their shakes so I went the "take-out route" and to my surprise, it took these incompetent employees 40 minutes to finally get my order. The only redeeming aspect of this visit was that my son loved their shakes. I vowed never to visit this dump again, but my son liked their shakes. Since he loves milkshakes, and after a movie a MJR-Partridge Creek we decided; against my better judgement to give this Steak-N-Shake another chance. Even though the restaurant was barely 50% full, it took 30 minutes to finally get seated and after we finally were seated, it took 30 minutes to order two burgers and two shakes. So, after a little more than an hour, we finally got our simple order placed. How simple can that really be? Finally after another 30 minutes, I asked to talk to the Manager, who took another 10 minutes to get to my table because he was having a conversation with a cute waitperson. After hearing my complaints, he assured me that my order was the "next up" and then returned to talk to his female employee. To my surprise, after another 15 minutes our order was not yet ready! I was just going to walk out when my order finally arrived. They apparently decided to "rush" our order, but interestingly the burger was cold and the fries wilted. I should have just left, but by now; my son would have ate anything that looked like food since he was famished. The only thing that was decent was their shakes again but the quality of their burger and their service was unprofessional, inept, and just plain rude. I normally give an establishment the benefit of a doubt, but in this case; if I could give someone "ZERO STARS", and in that case I would still be kind. I can understand service being not the best if they were super busy, but this has no excuse because they are just incompetent and rude! BTW, I gave then a second chance, there will not be a third chance. My Momma didn't raise a dummy and I hope others will speak up about this sad excuse for a restaurant!

Thought I should try Steak & Shake burger once in my life. Now I have. About every 8 years or so I torment myself with a burger from a fast food place that reminds me why I don't eat burgers from fast food places. The fries were the most bland, unseasoned ones I've ever had. I should've skipped the meal and went with a shake?

Apparently this place doesn't teach their night shift about customer service. My gf and I walk into to order a carry out apparently we made the mistake and not knowing what we wanted right away because we spent the next 15 minutes being completely ignored by the whole staff. Once we were ready we stand at the register ready to order. The server she has time to seat others get them started chit chat with her manager. There were two people in before us. She comes to the counter gives them their milk shakes looks right at me and walks away before I could place my order. Needless to the say after that I decided it was time to go. So we left and went somewhere else where customer service was a priority. I sure do hope the manager reads this and does something to rectify the situation and or go on knowing her server lost them a customer.

I came here for lunch with my son (1.5 years old). We were seated immediately by a very nice waitress. There were about 7 other tables with customers. I waited at least 5 minutes for a different waitress to come take my drink order. It then took her over 10 minutes for her to bring one drink to my table. I was just about to get up and leave when she finally brought it. It looked like the other tables had to wait in their drinks too. She brought all of her tables drinks out at one time. The other waitress that was working brought drinks out to her tables immediately. The waitress I had was nice, but not good at much else. Last time I ate here, she was my waitress too and she did the same thing. The fries were very salty today, but I didn't feel like waiting around for the waitress.

There's not too many diners or late night restaurants to eat at nearby. My boyfriend and I drove 30 minutes just to have dinner at 10pm. Service was atrocious. Place was dead and all the workers were eating at the bar stools so we stood by the door for nearly 5 minutes nearing walking out. Someone's ears must have perked up when my boyfriend mentioned walking out because two people got up to seat us. We ordered immediately because we already knew what we wanted. Service took awhile to get drinks and food. We were handed our bill before our food even arrived. Nothing like feeling rushed. Our burgers were wrong but neither one of us cared to send them back. Fries were crispy and not soggy from the chili and cheese. We wanted to order milk shakes to go and we were treated like it was the biggest deal in the world. Milk shakes were wrong. Boyfriend wanted vanilla milkshake with hot fudge. No hot fudge. I ordered Oreo cookies and cream milkshake. It was just vanilla ice cream topped with a few crumbles of cookie. I could have made that at home for cheaper. Picture showed everything all blended. It's not my favorite place to eat and not really worth the drive but when there's not many places to eat late at night it becomes an option. Nothing to write home about.

The order taker was so disconnected . . .as she took my order it seemed like a huge effort And when she handed the order out the window..she did NOT even make eye contact or look my way blindly handing the bag out the window....

They have hands down the worst service in America. It took the waitress over a half hour to take our drink order and there was only two other tables in the restraint. I asked for a side of ranch and she brought me out a cup of mayo. Oh and we didn't even get our milk shakes until after we were done eating so we went the whole meal without drinking anything. Two thumbs down steak and shake...two thumbs down.

Sad to say as of recent my experience with Steak 'n Shake are a little less stellar. The restaurant has just gone a little down hill. A little dirtier inside and the food using as good. Most times I would have to ask for fresh food in order to ensure my order was not lukewarm. I sure hope things can turn around. Lots of good times we had at Steak 'n Shake.

The only respectable thing about that place, and pardon the literature, was the larger black cook. Seems like the only guy i ever see working and actually washing his hands!

Came here with some friends after midnight on Christmas and safe to say I'll never be coming back. First of all, the three wait staff were ALL outside by the front entrance smoking, and told us to seat ourselves and they would be in soon. Who lets their employees smoke right into customers' faces as they are walking in?? So unprofessional! After waiting several minutes for their smoke break to be over and get some service, we finally got our orders taken. After waiting about another 30 minutes in a pretty dead restaurant (there were 3 other tables) we got our fries and burgers. The fries were COLD. All of the orders. And the burgers were mushy. It was overall so gross I was wishing McDonald's was open, and I hate McDonald's! Plus various items were forgotten, like ranch, something that was reiterated several times during the order, and utensils and someone's water (which by the way, it took forever for the drinks to arrive in the first place) Wish I could give negative stars for this awful experience!

After a night of drinking we were looking for a place open at 2am to get some food and saw it was open. We should have known by the place being empty that it was a sign to skip it, every other place in Macomb County that it open this late is usually booming on the weekends... Service was so-so. Burger was alright.....nothing bad....but I've had better. Fries are awful. My Husband called them "Jumbo Potato Sticks"...and that is the best way I can think of explaining them. I can think of a hundred other places I'd rather get a burger.

Where did their platter special go? That was quite disappointing. It's ok because I have since discovered the Buttery Wisconsin burger with double meat, caramelized onions, and cheddar. It's simple and perfect. I usually get the frisco melt but this might be my new order! Although I did use my sister's frisco sauce to dip my burger in just a bit. God I'm such a fatty.

As far as a fast food burger place this place pretty much rocks. The prices are great, the food is really good and the dine-in service has always been fast and friendly. I always get one of the burger & fry special that is $4 and then one of their awesome shakes.

I have been here several times. The service WAS awful in the past but has greatly improved. Their shakes are the best. Menu is mostly burgers and hotdogs, but it is reasonably priced and coupons by mail/paper come weekly. They offer kids eat free on weekends, so it does tend to be a little busy on weekeds. The wait staff is mostly young people which makes me happy. Two people with coupons can eat decently for under $15.

I had almost forgotten about this place until the other night when my boyfriend and I noticed that it was open late! The food and atmosphere is your typical fast food diner style, but their steak burgers are slightly different because the meat is cut real thin. The inside has a 50s style decor, no flat screens on the wall and is smoke free. I like this place for many reasons. First off they are open till 3:00 a.m. and you still have the option to eat inside the diner. (there is a drive thru too) This is a relief for my boyfriend and I especially on Friday nights when he gets off work at 12:00 a.m. We usually end up having to scarf down Taco Bell in the car or be forced to go to a loud and smoky National Coney only because there are no other sit down places to go to after 11:00 p.m.! Another big plus to eating here is that the food is reasonably priced. Meals under $4.00 is their latest advertisment! The service is prompt and the staff is polite too. The burger patties as I mentioned before are going to be thin cut so order a double or triple steak burger if you are super hungry! The fries are also cut in a thin shoe string style so they tend to be more crunchy. I also appreciated some small details like my water was in a big coke glass as opposed to the nasty plastic cups you would get from coney! The Heinz ketchup was also in a glass bottle and I even had to stick my fork in it first and tap the bottom to get some out. The menu does offer traditional restaurant options too like fish n' chips, chili mac and chicken salad. They also offer different sides to choose from like cottage cheese or baked beans.

Love their hamburgers! And of course the milkshakes are so thick, you cannot use a straw at first. They have many kinds of shakes, there's 1 for every age!! We went at 4pm and our bill was HALF OFF! I believe from 4-6 is happy hour, so that's why it was half off. Our waitress was SUPER FRIENDLY and I wish I remember her name. Not sure about all the not-so-good reviews but we had a great experience!
